As you may or may not know, lambing season is upon us. Please avoid crossing fields with sheep in them at this time if possible, but if you are approaching a field, using a permitted path, please make sure that dogs are on leads at all times.
We would like to let you know that we are in regular contact with Somerset County Highways Department regarding many aspects of road maintenance and safety matters around the village. We recognise that this is sadly becoming increasingly more necessary.
We have been advised that from 16th Feb to 4th Mar, the A30 at West Coker will be closed, weekday nights only from 19.00 – 06.00. This is to allow Heidelberg, on behalf of Somerset Highways, to undertake resurfacing. Outside working hours, the road will reopen to two-way traffic.
Prior to the closure advanced signage will be on site to advise the travelling public. While the road is closed there will be a signed diversion in place using the A303 (copy attached). Our reference for this scheme is PR001009.
PLEASE NOTE: That if you commented on the original application you need to comment again with regard to the appeal in order to have your view counted (Again in red)
I would also like to put this up on the home page under latest news:
Halves Lane Planning Application – Appeal Lodge
An appeal has been submitted to South Somerset District Council after planning for the 14 Industrial Units at Halves Lane was refused in September 2025.
PLEASE NOTE: if you commented on the original application you need to comment again with regard to the appeal in order to have your view counted.
Isles Farm, to the south of the parish, has been bought by Will Woodlands, which, according to its website, is a privately funded charity whose aim is tree planting for public enjoyment. It is proposing to cover much of the Isles Farm land into woodland with areas (see map of proposed planting):
Predominantly of broadleaved trees
Predominantly of mixed conifer planting
Agroforestry areas managed by extensive cattle grazing
It would entail deer-fencing most of the area, but all the footpaths and public rights of way will be kept in place. They have already set up a similar scheme at Long Bredy near Dorchester.
They have also said they would leave the parkland around Coker Court largely as it is.
The book exchange at the East Coker Bus Stop has been a phenomenal success, and we are very lucky to have it. Please be respectful and do not leave many books at one time or books that are not suitable. A one-in, one-out policy works well.
