Help Support Pincushion Corner

On Saturday, 25th April, the East Coker Action Group held a ‘Woodland Walkabout’ at Pin Cushion Corner.  It was a chance to show off our newly planted woodland, which includes 13 different species, as well as giving local people a chance to come together for a coffee and a chat.

The weather was beautiful, and it was a lovely few hours spent in an idyllic setting, sharing anecdotes and village history with visitors.

Thank you to everyone who supported the event – we look forward to holding another when the wood is more fully established. In the meantime, we would like to ask anyone who would like to support us in our endeavours to develop this beautiful wood for the villagers and generations to come to please email Sandi@yeovil.net.

Halves Lane Planning Permission

The period for appeal has closed.  The appellants now have until 23rd April 2026 to submit any further information.  As soon as we hear anything, we will let you know.

Spring Growth

It is that time of year when everything grows so fast.  We are very lucky to have our village ranger who helps us keep on top of the hedge trimming, drain clearing and verge cutting in and around the village.  However, what he cannot do is the private areas outside our own homes.  So please, when you have a chance, get your mowers and shears out!

POT HOLE REPORTING

We are all obviously noticing the worrying amount of pot holes appearing. If you are concerned about any of these and wish to report them to the Somerset Council, please contact them on: https://www.somerset.gov.uk/roads-travel-and-parking/report-a-problem-on-the-road/#potholes-road-damage-and-edge-loss

 Somerset Council are no longer responding to ‘fix my street’ as a way of informing them, so please use the link above or go to the Somerset.gov.uk website and click on Roads/travel & parking and follow that link.

Litter

We do seem to be noticing more litter around the village. We would ask that if you come across some could you kindly pick it up (wearing gloves is advised) and bin it.   We live in a beautiful part of the country and it’s such a shame that we have to remove other people’s rubbish, but it certainly makes for a more pleasant environment  to live in.

LAMBING SEASON

As you may or may not know, lambing season is upon us. Please avoid crossing fields with sheep in them at this time if possible, but if you are approaching a field, using a permitted path, please make sure that dogs are on leads at all times. 

BUS STOP BOOK EXCHANGE

The book exchange at the East Coker Bus Stop has been a phenomenal success, and we are very lucky to have it.  Please be respectful and do not leave many books at one time or books that are not suitable.  A one-in, one-out policy works well.
